Do I need a coach or a counsellor?

Counselling is about uncovering and recovering emotions and issues from the past that may be causing you to feel depressed or anxious. The focus is more on understanding and healing.

Coaching is about discovering your potential to create and make changes in your life. The focus is on action.

If we begin coaching and I feel that you would benefit more from working with a counsellor I will openly discuss this with you. I work closely with a network of counsellors and therapists any of whom I can put you in contact with.

Who do you work with?

I work with adults (18 and over) who are ready and willing to make a change.

2. Sessions

How many sessions will I need and how often should I come?

I recommend a minimum of 6 sessions and a maximum of 12 sessions. 8 is normally about right. Weekly is best, although fortnightly can also work well for some people.

What kinds of coaching are available?

I offer face to face coaching at my premises in Liverpool city centre, telephone coaching and online coaching using Skype, Zoom, VSEE or other secured virtual platforms.

How long is a coaching session?

A coaching session is 1 hour. Longer sessions (2 hours maximum) can be arranged if we both feel it is valuable to work in this way.

How soon will you get back to me after I have contacted you about coaching?

I will get back to you within 24 hours to answer any questions and book your first session if you decide to.

What about cancellation?

You will be required to pay the full cost of the session if you do not attend and you have not let me know 48 hours in advance. This is because it is unlikely I will be able to fill the slot at short notice.

3. Confidentiality

Is coaching confidential?

Your details remain confidential unless a serious matter occurs whereby I am obliged to break confidentiality. These are broken down into 3 groups, if you plan to take your own life, harm yourself or another, or if a child is suffering abuse or neglect.

I am worried that I will feel uncomfortable talking to a coach

Sessions are treated with complete confidence. I am trained to support you with whatever you want to discuss and work on. There is no judgement. I have professional supervision each month for 1.5 hours in which your identity remains anonymous.
